Valentine’s Day Press Release
Yorkshire Indie is beating the odds to turn the tables on the depleted high street
Independent high street shop, Fabrication Crafts is beating the odds to thrive during lock-down thanks to its unique products, eco-friendly ethos and the support it provides for its makers.
With shops at the heart of Leeds and York, the Social Enterprise supports more than 60 Yorkshire-based makers, artists and designers by providing online and city centre outlets as well as a host of other services. At a time when retailers are facing the huge challenges of lockdown, Fabrication works to help its makers by reducing social isolation and helping them to protect and grow their businesses.
The stores on Albion Street in Leeds and Coney Street in York closed their doors in early January as the UK went into lockdown, but the team continues to offer online shopping and click-and-collect services at www.shop.fabric-ation.co.uk.
“The Covid crisis has brought us some huge challenges,” said CEO Dawn Wood. “But we are determined to continue to serve our customers by bringing them our unique handmade goods.” The shops stock a huge variety of locally-made wares, from jewellery and beauty products through ceramics and candles, to hand-bound books and eco-art. Fabrication’s two shops will be open as soon as it is safe and legal. And as the makers themselves staff the shops, shoppers will be able to meet them in person.
Originally formed to reduce social isolation, the work of Fabrication is more crucial than ever in these isolating and lonely times. Catherine Boyne-Whitelegg who recently joined the York shop on Coney St has designed a range of gorgeous ceramic hearts to add to her collection of colourful and playful ceramics. She said, “Being part of a vibrant group of makers who support each other is such a bonus in these difficult times. The ethos of Fabrication is excellent and a joy to be part of”.
And the Fabrication makers are ready and keen to help customers celebrate Valentine’s Day. Jeweller Jo Bagshaw, who has created a range of exquisite heart-themed jewellery, said, “yes, we are in lockdown, but Valentine’s Day can still be really special. Fabrication sells gifts that you can’t find anywhere else, carefully made by artists who love what they do”.
In the meantime, Fabrication offers online shopping via their website and a click-and-collect service.
Dawn Wood said: “We are delighted to continue to help our makers through this difficult time and we are extremely grateful for the support of our wonderful customers”.
