Based on a 3rd-Century book found in Egypt, come make your own leather notebook using historically appropriate methods. Made of leather, lined in papyrus, and tied shut with multiple ties, this rustic notebook is modelled after the Nag Hammadi Codices. Along the way learn more about the methods used to make this book and how & why they were made the way they are.

This class will be held in Fabrication York at 32 Stonegate YO1 8AS

Access: The class room area is accessed via the Fabrication shop and is located on the ground floor towards the back of the shop space. The shop has two steps up from the street. Inside there are a further two steps from the front of the shop to the back of the shop. Toilets are on the first floor accessed by 2 flights of stairs. If you have any specific access queries relating to the course content, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.

    Working With Fabric - Making Cloth Covered Books - 16th June 2024 16th June 2024: 10:30-17:30 (with a break for lunch) £70 a head. Maximum 8 participants. Hot drinks included. Suitable for beginners but some previous craft or bookbinding experience is helpful. All tools and materials provided. A creative class looking at how to turn your fabric scraps into decorative book cloth. We'll spend the morning looking at possible fabrics, what to look out for when choosing your fabric, and different methods for lining them for covering. In the afternoon, we'll move on to covering some test boards with different types of fabric and finally covering a pre-prepared text block to create your own finished cloth covered book. All materials are provided but participants are welcome to bring their own fabrics to work with, if suitable. This class will be held in Anachronalia’s city centre workshop Fabrication2 venue at Hereford House, 6 Edward St, Leeds LS2 7NT There are plenty of local eateries to take your lunch in, or you can bring a packed lunch and sit in the workshop itself. Access: the workshop is on the first floor, accessed via a short flight of stairs to the ground floor, then a larger flight of stairs with handrail accessed via a fire door.     27th October 2024 10:30-17:30 Max 8 participants (This class requires at least 4 participants to run) There is nothing better when the nights are drawing in, than reading ghost stories from a finely-bound book. Now you can make your own with this bookbinding and storytelling workshop at Fabrication Crafts. Join us for a joint workshop with Anachronalia and Steve Mackenzie at Fabrication Studios to make your own hardback book and then fill it with your very own ghost stories. The workshop begins by creating a hardback notebook with Anachronalia inspired by Victorian and Edwardian stationery. Suitable for complete beginners, all materials will be provided. After a break for lunch, the second half of our workshop will be led by storytelling master Steve Mackenzie. Stories surround us everyday, but someday when the darkness is falling and the veil is thin our minds start to find bits of light coming through, glimpses of that shadow in the corner, now is the time to write.. GHOST STORIES... Steve Mackenzie will help you explore the ghost story/folk horror landscape to find the story that wants you to write it. This workshop will be held on the first floor of Fabrication2 Hereford House, 6 Edward St, Leeds LS2 7NT, please note our main entrance door is on North Court. The workshop can get cold in the autumn and winter months so do bring an extra layer just in case. There will be hot drinks available throughout.     Christmas Candle Making Workshop in York city centre

    Christmas Candle Making Workshop Dates: Sat 2nd Nov either 11 -1pm or 2 - 4pm Sun 1st Dec 11 - 1pm Sun 15th Dec 11 - 1pm Ideal for anyone new to candle making.  You can enjoy learning how to make your own soy wax Christmas candles and tealights.  Working at a relaxed pace and choosing from various Christmas aromas you will make 2 x tin container candles and a set of 6 tealights.  These are yours to keep (once they've cured). Workshops are kept small to allow for individual attention, all materials, equipment and tuition are included in the price. On the day all you need to do is turn up and enjoy. Your tutor is Wendy, owner of York based business PQ Soy Wax Candles.  Wendy has over 10 years experience of making candles and wax melts. After the workshop, Wendy will manage the curing and CLP labelling and your candles will be ready to collect from Fabrication York 1 week after the workshop. All the products you'll make are suitable for Vegans. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult (over 18).  The workshops last around 2 hours with complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits.  Please advise of allergen requirements at least 48 hours prior to the workshop.
