Make your own miniature book. All the fun of bookbinding at a fraction of the size. This class will take your through the basics of making a miniature case binding, using book cloth and decorative paper. All materials will be provided but participants are very welcome to bring their own paper to incorporate into their bindings if suitable.

Create your very own tiny tome. Tomes can have jump rings added if you would like to turn your tome into a book themed necklace or brooch. A short fun class aimed at beginners.

This class will be held in Fabrication York at 19 Coney St, York YO1 9QL

Access: The Fabrication shop has level access to the street. The class area is on the first floor accessed via 2 flights of stairs. Toilets are on the first floor and accessed via three sets of fire doors. If you have any specific access queries, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.

    Jesmonite – Make a set of homewares Dates: Sat 5th Oct 10.30 - 12.30 Sat 9th Nov 10.30 - 12.30 During this 2-hour workshop you will be shown step by step, with demo’s, how to create a Jesmonite (non-toxic, eco-friendly, water-based resin) trinket tray, coaster and small pot using Terrazzo, Marbling & Block Colour techniques. You will have the chance to get creative with these techniques and various colours.  At the end of the class, you will have made a pretty set of homewares and as jesmonite is quick to set you can take it straight home with you. £40 per person.  All materials for each process are provided so just turn up and enjoy. No experience needed. You may wish to bring an apron if you want to keep your clothes clean, as it can sometimes be a messy process. Classes are limited to 6 people to allow support to be given where needed. Suitable for age 12+ under 16 to be accompanied by an adult. Your tutor is Wendy of PQ Soy Wax Candles.  Wendy started to experiment with Jesmonite in 2023 and loves the fast-setting process and different techniques you can use.  Wendy says, “you just never know what the finished effect is going to be until you decant your product, each piece is truly unique!” Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult (over 18).  Enjoy complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits during your class.  Please advise of allergen requirements at least 48 hours prior to the workshop.     Working With Fabric - Making Cloth Covered Books - 16th June 2024 16th June 2024: 10:30-17:30 (with a break for lunch) £70 a head. Maximum 8 participants. Hot drinks included. Suitable for beginners but some previous craft or bookbinding experience is helpful. All tools and materials provided. A creative class looking at how to turn your fabric scraps into decorative book cloth. We'll spend the morning looking at possible fabrics, what to look out for when choosing your fabric, and different methods for lining them for covering. In the afternoon, we'll move on to covering some test boards with different types of fabric and finally covering a pre-prepared text block to create your own finished cloth covered book. All materials are provided but participants are welcome to bring their own fabrics to work with, if suitable. This class will be held in Anachronalia’s city centre workshop Fabrication2 venue at Hereford House, 6 Edward St, Leeds LS2 7NT There are plenty of local eateries to take your lunch in, or you can bring a packed lunch and sit in the workshop itself. Access: the workshop is on the first floor, accessed via a short flight of stairs to the ground floor, then a larger flight of stairs with handrail accessed via a fire door.   • Lino Printing with Colour

    LINO PRINT with Colour 11.30 – 14.30 Sunday 27th October 2024 - Fabrication York. Learn the basics of lino printing with Colour: from carving to inking to printing a lino block (A6 size) with Rachel Holborow of RK Wanderings printmaking - an experienced teacher, member of York Printmakers and York Open Studios artist. In this three hour workshop you will begin by learning about the tools and materials of lino printmaking; design and carve your own lino block (you can bring an idea (A6 drawing, high contrast photo, or collage) of what you might like to print); then experiment with printing it using either two colours with the jigsaw method or with a graduated ombre roll. We will use water based inks, which are non-toxic and easy to clean up. There will be a maximum of 5 participants and you must be over 18 to take part. Be aware, you will use sharp tools at your own risk! (Safety tips will be covered at the beginning of the workshop and must be adhered to.) All materials for the workshop are included in the price, and you can take home the lino block you carve and your prints. Total cost for this 3 hour workshop is £38 which includes workshop materials, use of equipment and tuition + tea and biscuits.
