There is nothing better when the nights are drawing in, than reading ghost stories from a finely-bound book. Now you can make your own with this bookbinding and storytelling workshop at Fabrication Crafts.

Join us for a joint workshop with Anachronalia and Steve Mackenzie at Fabrication Studios to make your own hardback book and then fill it with your very own ghost stories.

The workshop begins by creating a hardback notebook with Anachronalia inspired by Victorian and Edwardian stationery. Suitable for complete beginners, all materials will be provided.

After a break for lunch, the second half of our workshop will be led by storytelling master Steve Mackenzie. Stories surround us everyday, but someday when the darkness is falling and the veil is thin our minds start to find bits of light coming through, glimpses of that shadow in the corner, now is the time to write.. GHOST STORIES… Steve Mackenzie will help you explore the ghost story/folk horror landscape to find the story that wants you to write it.

This workshop will be held on the first floor of Fabrication2 Hereford House, 6 Edward St, Leeds LS2 7NT, please note our main entrance door is on North Court.

The workshop can get cold in the autumn and winter months so do bring an extra layer just in case. There will be hot drinks available throughout.

Access: the workshop is on the first floor, accessed via a short flight of stairs to the ground floor, then a larger flight of stairs with handrail accessed via a fire door. Toilets and kitchen facilities are on the same floor as the workshop. If you have any specific access queries, don’t hesitate to contact Anachronalia.

    LINO PRINT with Colour 11.30 – 14.30 Sunday 27th October 2024 - Fabrication York. Learn the basics of lino printing with Colour: from carving to inking to printing a lino block (A6 size) with Rachel Holborow of RK Wanderings printmaking - an experienced teacher, member of York Printmakers and York Open Studios artist. In this three hour workshop you will begin by learning about the tools and materials of lino printmaking; design and carve your own lino block (you can bring an idea (A6 drawing, high contrast photo, or collage) of what you might like to print); then experiment with printing it using either two colours with the jigsaw method or with a graduated ombre roll. We will use water based inks, which are non-toxic and easy to clean up. There will be a maximum of 5 participants and you must be over 18 to take part. Be aware, you will use sharp tools at your own risk! (Safety tips will be covered at the beginning of the workshop and must be adhered to.) All materials for the workshop are included in the price, and you can take home the lino block you carve and your prints.     Christmas Candle Making Workshop in Leeds city centre

    Christmas Candle Making Workshop Dates: Sat 16th Nov either 11 -1pm or 2 - 4pm Sun 24th Nov 2 - 4pm Sun 8th Dec 2 - 4pm Ideal for anyone new to candle making.  You can enjoy learning how to make your own soy wax Christmas candles and tealights.  Working at a relaxed pace and choosing from various Christmas aromas you will make 2 x tin container candles and a set of 6 tealights.  These are yours to keep (once they've cured). Workshops are kept small to allow for individual attention, all materials, equipment and tuition are included in the price. On the day all you need to do is turn up and enjoy. Your tutor is Wendy, owner of York based business PQ Soy Wax Candles.  Wendy has over 10 years experience of making candles and wax melts. After the workshop, Wendy will manage the curing and CLP labelling and your candles will be ready to collect from Fabrication Leeds Facebook 1 week after the workshop.     Working With Fabric - Making Cloth Covered Books - 16th June 2024 16th June 2024: 10:30-17:30 (with a break for lunch) £70 a head. Maximum 8 participants. Hot drinks included. Suitable for beginners but some previous craft or bookbinding experience is helpful. All tools and materials provided. A creative class looking at how to turn your fabric scraps into decorative book cloth. We'll spend the morning looking at possible fabrics, what to look out for when choosing your fabric, and different methods for lining them for covering. In the afternoon, we'll move on to covering some test boards with different types of fabric and finally covering a pre-prepared text block to create your own finished cloth covered book. All materials are provided but participants are welcome to bring their own fabrics to work with, if suitable. This class will be held in Anachronalia’s city centre workshop Fabrication2 venue at Hereford House, 6 Edward St, Leeds LS2 7NT There are plenty of local eateries to take your lunch in, or you can bring a packed lunch and sit in the workshop itself.
